Here are some of our favorite places in Juneau! Enjoy!

Downtown Juneau:

Restaurants:

El Sombrero - our favorite Mexican Restaurant! Locally owned and operated by Fritz and Liz -- tell them hello from us and try the Halibut Tacos when they are one of their specials! Yum! Oh, and buy some of their house dressing to take home with you!

Hangar on the Wharf or Twisted Fish for a view of the harbor and great Alaskan seafood!

Pizzeria Roma -- when you really need a tasty homemade thin crust authentic Italian pizza! :-)

Zephyr - Mediterranean food and it is amazing!

Must do's:

State Museum -- 0ne of the best museums we have visited; and we love museums! Be sure to go to the right as you enter and see the eagles and eagle nests in the tree that the access to the upper floor winds around! Talk about up close and personal! I know that is an awkward sentence, but when you see it you will know what I mean :-)

Mt. Robert's Tram -- even I who hate heights can handle the quick trip to the top. It is well worth the time and effort to see Juneau from this perspective and to be up-close and personal with the alpine! (You get to see this on our Bike and Tram Tour!)

Juneau Arts & Humanities Council Building - there is always an art show going on and often other events that are well worth your while! Check out their website for what is happening when you are in town!

Juneau Douglas City Museum - a fun little museum that shows the colorful mining history of Juneau!

Shopping:

Rufus K. Page - a locally owned great browsing store with beautiful handmade Alaskan jewelry, gifts and so much more! Check it out in Merchant's Wharf!

Foggy Mountain Shop - the clothes we live and work in! Great outdoor wear for all your outdoor activities! It is owned by Scott and Betsy Fisher -- great friends and great people; plus  they know their stuff!

Shoefly! - OK, I may live in the rainforests of SE Alaska but I love cool shoes! Love them!

Annie Kail's - the most unique shopping in Alaska! From artwork and jewelry to unique Alaskan pottery and jelly beans... there is something for everyone! A must visit!

Ad Lib - wonderful gift ideas plus unique artwork by Rie Munoz (Cathy's Mother-in-Law!) Say hi to Cathy if you see her! She is one of our State Representatives.

Downtown Douglas (on Douglas Island)

Restaurants:

The Island Pub -  I am not sure if I like the handmade pizzas best or the steak salad! Great place for dinner! Cool decor!

Douglas Cafe - one of the best burgers in town and fantastic soups!

Must do's:

Sandy Beach - beautiful place to take a walk and enjoy the beach (experience the dramatic tidal shifts we have) and the view! Take the time to walk down the Treadwell Trail and see some old remnants of the mining history of Douglas.

Valley and Out the Road (that means past the Mendenhall Valley Area):

Restaurants:

Chan's Thai Kitchen - authentic Thai cuisine! Wonderful! Dinners only.

The Hot Bite in Auke Bay Harbor- summer operation only; fantastic burgers and handmade, homemade shakes! Yum!

Southeast Waffle Company - superb, imaginative waffles and great coffee! What a combination!

Must do's:

Mendenhall Glacier and Visitors Center -- this is Juneau, Alaska after all! (You get to see this on our bike and Brew Tour!)

Shrine of St. Therese -- an amazing old Catholic Chapel set in an amazing location out the road!

DIPAC (Douglas Island Pink and Chum) Fish Hatchery - who know a fish hatchery could be so fascinating!

Shopping:

Nugget Alaska Outfitter - great clothing for the outdoors of Alaska and beyond!
