Meet the Cycle Alaska Team

John P. McConnochie
Position at Cycle Alaska: I am the co-owner of Cycle Alaska with my wife Peggy Ann. I love being involved in such a positive business whether it’s seeing the smile on the face of a customer getting on a bike for the first time in many years and remembering what a sense of freedom their first bike meant to them, or seeing the wide-eyed wonder of one of our guests on tour as we show them the beauty of Juneau.
Hometown: I was born and raised in Dunedin, New Zealand
Favorite place to ride: For mountain biking it would be a tough choice between Perseverance Trail and Treadwell Trail. When I want to be o n my road bike, North Douglas Highway with a trip up to Eaglecrest or “out the road” from mile 28 to mile 42 and return would be where you will find me.
Favorite bike: My Kona Hei Hei Trail DL for the trails and on the road my Trek Madone 5.2. I also love riding my Kona Rove NRB DL -- it is a multi surface and multi-purpose bike.
What are your hobbies off the bike: I enjoy reading (history mainly), running the trails in Juneau and when the weather permits, exploring the alpine trails. I also enjoy traveling and experiencing different cultures, crossword puzzles, spending time with my wife Peggy Ann and family, giving back to Juneau and paying my “civic rent."
If you could have one superpower what would it be: To fly.
Is there anything else you would like to say: Juneau is an amazing place to ride and I like sharing that experience with Juneauites and those who visit our beautiful city. I also enjoy introducing people to the bicycling lifestyle.
Abi Spofford
Position at Cycle Alaska: General Manager
Abi came to us in 2020 right at the beginning of Covid-19. She worked as the Operations Manager for a year and a half before slinging fish internationally. But lucky for us, she came to her senses and started back at Cycle Alaska as the General Manager in August of 2022 just after completing IRONMAN Alaska. Now, She rides a Kona Libre EL (An electric gravel bike) and has a passion for getting people of all backgrounds, abilities and skill levels out on two wheels. You can find her decorating the store front, counting inventory or chatting with customers about their recent adventures. Accompanying Abi to the shop most days is her dog Annabelle. Annabelle is most often found snoring on her bed.

Jillian Stalker
Position at Cycle Alaska: Assistant General Manager
Jillian started with Cycle Alaska on our retail floor and quickly became an integral part of our operation. You can find Jillian riding either her pink and purple Surly Straggler, or orange Surly Karate Monkey. She strives to ride her bike to work each day, regardless of the weather. She is a big proponent of having fun on two wheels and believes you don't have to sacrifice fashion for function.

Erik Goldsberry
Position at Cycle Alaska: Bike Mechanic
Our charismatic mechanic Erik loves helping customers get their bikes back in action! He rides his Kona Rove DL year-round, rain or shine and loves to have fun on two wheels.
