Meet the Cycle Alaska Team

John P. McConnochie

Position at Cycle Alaska: I am the co-owner of Cycle Alaska with my wife Peggy Ann. I enjoy being involved in such a positive business whether it’s seeing the smile on the face of a customer getting on a bike for the first time in many years and remembering what a sense of freedom their first bike meant to them or seeing the wide-eyed wonder of one of our guests on tour as we show them the beauty that is Juneau.

Hometown: I was born and raised in Dunedin, New Zealand

Favorite place to ride: For mountain biking it would be a tough choice between Perseverance Trail and Treadwell Trail. Regarding road riding, North Douglas Highway with a trip up to Eaglecrest or “out the road” from mile 28 to mile 42 and return.

Favorite bike: My Kona Hei Hei Trail DL for the trails and on the road my Trek Madone 5.2. I am looking forward to riding my new Kona Rove NRB DL, a multi surface and multi-purpose bike, when it arrives in the spring.

What are your hobbies off the bike: I enjoy reading (history mainly), running the trails in Juneau and when the weather permits, exploring the alpine trails, traveling and experiencing different cultures, crossword puzzles, spending time with my wife Peggy Ann and family, giving back to Juneau and paying my “civic rent”.

If you could have one superpower what would it be: To fly.

Is there anything else you would like to say: Juneau is an amazing place to ride and I like sharing that experience with Juneauites and those who visit our beautiful city. I also enjoy introducing people to the bicycling lifestyle.

Briana Swanson

Position at Cycle Alaska: General Manager....Cycle Alaska being a small shop and all, I get to do it all. Whether it be ordering, sales, stocking, hiring, planning events, tour coordinating and even sometimes leading a tour, Im here to help. It may get crazy, but I get to tell people all about bikes and help them with their bike needs, and thats what im all about!

Hometown: Pacifica, California "known as the foggy city"

Favorite place to ride: Perseverance with some Granite creek added in

Favorite bike: Trek remedy

What are your hobbies off the bike: Hiking, Yoga, exploring the world, projects, cooking, camping, photography, running, pretty much anything outside and active!

If you could have one superpower what would it be: Flying...Not only could I travel everywhere I want to, I would save a ton on flights out of Juneau.

Is there anything else you would like to say: Get outside and seize the day! Dont let the weather hold you back, you will only be depriving yourself of Natures wonders.

Abi Spofford

Position at Cycle Alaska: Operations Manager

Hometown: I moved around all the time growing up. I have lived in Idaho, Oregon, Virginia, Washington and Shanghai, China. Most recently I lived on the Oregon Coast in a town of 2,000 people.

Favorite place to ride: Rural roads. I love exploring and seeing old barns and buildings.

Favorite bike: : I am new to the biking world! I have a classic road bike that I love but can’t wait to get my hands on something more rugged.

What are your hobbies off the bike: : I am a big backpacker. I hiked 1,600 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail in 2017 and enjoy taking weeklong trips in the backcountry. I also have been outfitting a Promaster van to be my ultimate camping rig. I ran the plumbing, wired the electric, replaced the passenger seat and airbags among a million other things. I have traveled extensively throughout the world and now have been enjoying trips closer to home with my partner and our dog in our van.

If you could have one superpower what would it be: Teleporting. I hate driving and sitting still.

Is there anything else you would like to say: : I love planning events, hosting gatherings and volunteering for organizations I believe in. I am very excited to get connected to the community here in Juneau.
